The San Francisco Giants are trading away their star catcher Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians.

In return for Bailey, the Giants are receiving the No. 29 pick in this year's MLB Draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt 'Tugboat' Wilkinson.

Bailey won National League's Gold Glove award at catcher in both 2024 and 2025 after a consistent run of impressive performances.

But he had had lost his starting spot in recent weeks, with the Giants turning to recently called-up Jesus Rodriguez and Eric Haase.

Bailey, 26, has hit .224/.282/.329 with 22 home runs in 383 games since 2023.

However, according to FanGraphs, Bailey has been the most valuable defender in MLB since making his debut and has been worth 102.9 defensive runs.

It comes just hours after Rafael Devers homered to capitalize on six strong innings from Robbie Ray as the Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 on Friday night.

The only run allowed by Ray came in the second when Marcell Ozuna led off with his 300th career homer to put Pittsburgh up 1-0.

The Guardians also had plenty to celebrate after Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 amateur draft, hit his first major league home run on Friday night.

Rookie pitcher Parker Messick also allowed just one run in over five innings as the Guardians won their third straight, beating the Minnesota Twins 6-4.
